I am Kara Lynch. In September of 2018, I created my blog, Kontently Kara in hopes of inspiring people who carry mental health diagnoses. I must be honest, I also created Kontently Kara to keep myself accountable within my life with bipolar disorder. Throughout my short life, I’ve learned to cope by writing and doing community work.
I hope you find this content relatable. Even if you don’t have a mental illness, I believe you will be able to take something away from my experiences. Whether you have a mood disorder or have lost a loved one to Alzheimer’s or dementia, mental health affects us all. I pray that you find the strength to carry on for one more day and one more day.
This blog is not the solution to all of your mental health issues, but may you find the courage you need to use what’s been inside of you all along. I want to empower you to not only recover but transcend stigma and become your best possible self, regardless of your mental health diagnosis.
My Story
I went from College Girl to Maniac in a millisecond. In the summer of 2011, I had no sense of reality, I was verbally abusive to loved ones, and I was under the constant supervision of my family, as they were concerned about my safety. My life of last-minute studying and 3 o’clock lattes ended, but my life was indeed just beginning. The following years came with many ups and downs. In 2016, I experienced a bout of depression that landed me in the emergency psychiatric ward for a night. Bipolar disorder is as natural to me as drinking water. I am not Kara without it; however, I am so much more. I am beyond blessed to be on this journey and thankful for everyone I’ve encountered along the way.
Join the Mental Health Movement
I want people of color to know that you can serve God and seek mental health treatment too. Stigma, particularly in the African American community, serves as a stumbling block for us all. Now is the time to push it aside and get the help that’s necessary to advance as a community. Welcome to Kontently Kara! Thank you for joining me on this journey.
